Women Warriors is an organization focused on promoting healthy communities, specifically among First Nations women. They required a logo which would capture the essence of the organization’s goal.
We started with three sketches, one of which was chosen for further development. The style of each sketch is heavily influenced by artwork by First Nations artists, and each illustration has a flowing, dynamic look with visual movement which emphasizes the need for change in our communities. Upon reflection, the client decided to change the illustration to a woman’s profile, and a fourth sketch was created which hit the nail on the head.
The fourth sketch is even more detailed than the first three, with intricate detailing in the woman’s hair, shoulder and background. The face looks upwards and to the left, representing an optimistic look towards the future; and the fine detail behind her represents the events of her past that have shaped her into her present form. The woman’s face is not overly cheery, but full of resolve, and the slight smile indicates a mature and informed hope. The illustration has a leftward movement, indicating progression, and is circular, representing malleability.
Upon approval of the sketch, we moved into the vectorization process, colouring the logo, and adding text. The colour palette is slightly desaturated, using a pale yellow background to represent optimism without excessive cheer — it is delicate and beautiful, yet raw and very real. The final product is a highly detailed logo which may be scaled to any size without loss of quality (like all of our logos).
